Spammers love me!

Spammers love reading my writings, at least if you can believe the comments they leave on this blog. Here’s a few excerpts from my comment spam queue:

Do you mind if I quote a few of your articles […]? My blog site is in the very same area of interest as yours and my users would truly benefit from some of the information you provide here.

Iactually [sic] have got to declare you produce various very good points and will probably submit a few tips to add after a day or two.

Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your weblog and wanted to say that I’ve really enjoyed surfing around your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again very soon!

I came across the website via tweets and it in fact is fairly useful. Appreciate your talking about this type of a terrific post.

Wohh exactly what I was searching for, thanks for putting up.

Nicely done mate. I agree most of what was written right here & this would certainly make myself wanna return to your blog! Bookmarked!

Of course, all of this is fake and just a futile attempt to get me to publish their mindless and deliberately vague drivel, along with a link to whatever shady website they included. With that said however, it is astonishing how these comments are only posted on the very few posts on this blog that just barely scrape past the ‘not entirely useless’ classification while the automated and, by definition, utterly use-free Twitter-brainfart-dump posts get no comments at all. It is this fact that has me wondering: Do the spammers actually value the particular posts in whose comment section they unload their trash more than the other ones? And by extension, doesn’t that actually make part of their slimy ego-boost honey true? I’d certainly like to think so!

Being a technophile however, there is of course a completely rational explanation for the above: The respective blog entries have more textual content and therefore get ranked higher in search engines, which, in return, simply makes it easier for spammers and their automated tools to find and target them. It basically boils down to a matter of referral and flying over the low altitude radar that they use.

So there we are, my blog is not ‘terrific’, not ‘exactly what I was searching for’ and most probably not even ‘fairly useful’. For me, that’s OK though. After all, there’s a reason why it is hidden away in the remote depths of the World Wide Web, stashed behind the virtual bedroom cupboard of the network we call ‘the Internet’, and that’s because I never actually set out the be a good blogger. Instead, I am contempt to just plonk random ramblings in here. This is, if you wish, my personal Twitter page, with much more than 140 characters per post, space for even the loudest of brain farts.
