Given the bad omen that the old call sign brought my new PC (its motherboard died about 14 days after I built it), I’ve decided to change its name. Granted, the old name was a troublesome Kilrathi colony, the new one is the Kilrathi homeworld which eventually got blown to bits by the Temblor Bomb. (Yeah, I’m a huge Wing Commander fangeekdork.) Hopefully that won’t happen to my freshly reassembled box. ;)
P.S. Huge thanks to computeruniverse who kindly replaced the defective motherboard for free (incl. shipping and everything). They’re definitely worth their money!
Cleaning up mah server »« 2008 – Year of the Dead Hardware
Hardware of mine that died this year:
1 Gigabyte GA-8IHPX Pentium IV motherboard – might have died in 2007, I only noticed it this year.
2 IBM DeskStar 75GB harddrives – one of these died with the motherboard, the other died recently, nearly taking all the data with it (they both formed a RAID1 mirror for safety reasons but of course managed to fail shortly one after the other)
1 ASUS Striker Formula II socket 775 motherboard – the one of my new PC
And today, the Wireless Interface of my laptop died. And not only that, if only the WiFi had died, I could’ve used my Linksys PCMCIA Wireless card to get access to my WLAN, so of course the PCMCIA controller’s dead too!
P.S. I had to actually write this post twice as the damn network cable managed to get disconnected when I submitted it the first time.
I hate computers!
